Dave’s Energy Boosts 6-12
Here is a summary of the weeks Energy Boosts, as seen on Facebook. Going out to all those in Dorchester and the surrounding area!

PLAY OFTEN
Get an active hobby! This is your “play” session of the week. It may be gardening, hiking, rock climbing or throwing a frisbee around with the kids. Something that you enjoy and that gets you moving.
What does Dave think? ‘
I love rock climbing on Sunday afternoons. Its also a perfect application for all my strength training at the gym in the week.
What hobby will you start this weekend?

HAVE ONE COMPLETE DAY OFF A WEEK
If God rested on the 7th day, dont you think you should too?
What does Dave think?
This has been my biggest battle of late, to have one day a week where I dont work and just relax. You may have heard it said, we are human beings NOT human doings.
Post a picture of what you get up to on your day off
No.8
EAT COCOA
A power food packed with antioxidants, phytochemicals, minerals, and the building blocks of neurotransmitters and other “feel good” hormones.
“Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity” is a measure of the potential antioxidant capacity of a food. Organic raw cocoa has the HIGHEST ORAC value of any food.
What does Dave think? ‘
I generally have 1-2 big mugs of cocoa a day or put it with my breakfast or a smoothie. I am a big fan of 90-100% dark chocolate
Has anyone tried cocoa as a drink before (without all the sugar?!)

LIFT HEAVY THINGS
You really should consider lifting heavy things around 2 times per week. Unfortunately many girls have wrong perceptions about weight bearing activity. Fearful that it will “bulk them up”. In reality you were designed to lift heavy things, your body thrives on it! It releases building up (anabolic) hormones throughout the body, increases bone density and packs on functional muscle.
What does Dave think?
All I used to do is run. Over the last few years I have incorporated strength training into my programming. I am not a “body builder” type with bulging biceps but my overall strength has gone sky high, now being able to lift twice my body weight. I feel better and I move better.
Anyone scared of getting too bulky with strength training?

DRINK TEA
From least processed to most:
- White Tea
- Green Tea
- Black Tea
There are some great health benefits with tea because of the antioxidants and minerals found in the leaves. However the quantity does vary depending on the type and quality of the tea leaves used.
What does Dave think?
I generally have a cup of green tea a day. Why? I’ve grown to like the taste (although it does look like pond water) and it makes me feel good, I figure its also hydrating me whilst giving me nutritional benefit. If you like tea, drink it in moderation, if you don’t , you wont be missing out in a big way! Its an optional health choice.
How many cups of tea do you drink a day?

STAND UP
How can sitting down at breakfast, in the car, at work, in front of the TV be any good for you? What is worse we twist our bodies into this weird Tetris block with poor posture when we do sit down. Sitting down weakens our muscles, especially in the legs and the hips. It’s just one big static stretch, all day long, which weakens them.
What does Dave think?
It’s a no brainer, I feel rubbish sitting down for long periods, my back hurts, I feel drained, NO! When I’m moving around, standing up, it gets the muscles moving and the blood pumping. Right now I have my laptop perched on a chair that’s on a table, so I can stand up and type! You may not be able to do that at work, but at least try to get moving every 20minutes.
Who suffers with back problems?
No.12
EAT BRAZIL NUTS
Selenium! An essential mineral that isn’t in many of our foods but selenium is vital for thyroid hormone production, the manufacture of endogenous antioxidants
What does Dave think?
I try to have 3 Brazil nuts a day, that gives me my RDA of Selenium. Its that simple.
Any Brazil nut fans?
